Call for Journal Editorial Board

Submission deadline: April 11, 2025 


The National Indigenous Knowledge and Language Alliance/Alliance nationale des connaissances et des langues autochtones (NIKLA-ANCLA) is establishing an open access journal that contains scholarly and community content. To establish this unique journal, NIKLA-ANCLA is seeking expressions of interest from individuals willing to become volunteer editorial board members to guide the editorial direction of the journal and ensure the journal's relevance and quality.


Purpose

To establish and ensure the journal is relevant and meets the needs of NIKLA-ANCLA's membership to and promote the content and value of Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) voices to network and nurture a community of practice related to Indigenous knowledge, cultural memory, language, and Indigenous ways of knowing, as they relate to culture memory and heritage. Editorial Board members serve for a period of three years. 


Responsibilities

  • Guide the direction and scope of the journal

  • Assist and support the development of author guidelines

  • Read, review and discuss incoming manuscripts 

  • Encourage and source manuscript submissions

  • Support the peer review process

  • Offer insight into research areas

  • Support and promote the journal impacts and authors

  • Review and approve policies for the journal

  • Attend Editorial Board meetings, initially monthly for a three month period, and thereafter quarterly


Selection criteria

An Editorial Board member must be a NIKLA-ANCLA member in good standing, preferably with experience in scholarly journal editorial experience, academic scholarly activities, relevant Indigenous knowledge, or other related experience.

If appropriate, a non-member may be suggested for appointment if the prospective member is willing, and their involvement will support NIKLA-ANCLA’s ongoing work to diversify its membership base and support the work of marginalized archivists and information professionals in Canada. 

Once vetted, the Chair will submit names to the Council for formal approval.


Submission of Expression of Interest

Expressions of Interest should include a brief description of your desire to volunteer, experience, and any relevant information that you would like considered. 


Please submit your interest via email using “Expression of Interest for NIKLA-ANCLA Journal Editorial Board” in the subject line to admin@nikla-ancla.com by April 11, 2025.


Timeline

The below timeline provides the anticipated schedule for the Call for Interest. The timing and the sequence of events resulting from this Call for Interest may vary and shall ultimately be determined by NIKLA-ANCLA.   

Submission Deadline – April 11, 2025

Notification of Appointment will take place no later than April 21, 2025

Anticipated First Meeting on or before April 30, 2025
