Many congratulations to the X̱wi7x̱wa Library at UBC for being awarded the Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums (ATALM) Library Institutional Excellence Award. The Library Institutional Excellence Award was created to honour an Indigenous library that demonstrates outstanding service to its community. We also wish to give a special acknowledgement to the founding Librarian, Dr. Gene Joseph, and to all who have continued to build upon her vision!

X̱wi7x̱wa is noted for it approach to decolonizing subject headings and for its use of the Brian Deer Classification System. X̱wi7x̱wa embraces Indigenous perspectives and voices in its collections, and programs. It is known for raising up Indigenous librarians and many renowned Indigenous librarians started here.
